The Tradition Continues – Wes Hurst Memorial Two Weeks Away
Tucson, Arizona (November 14, 2009) – Johnny Scott snared a $15,000 gem by besting a 105-car field in last weekend's 10th Annual Fall Nationals at Las Cruces’ Southern New Mexico Speedway.
Now, one more $15,000 victory prize awaits the top modified racers in the country as the best of the best will battle in the Thanksgiving weekend’s 5th Annual Barnett Harley Davidson Wes Hurst Memorial at Tucson's USA Raceway on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, November 27-29.
The stellar field, including three former Wes Hurst champions and numerous track and series champions from throughout the country will take part in what has become one of the largest modified races in America.
Kenny Schrader, Jeremy Payne, Terry Phillips, Jason Hughes, Kelly Shryock and Pat Doar will be among the many top drivers headed west to take on the best in the southwest. RC Whitwell who dominated at USA in 2009 will be in good company with Las Cruces standout Stormy Scott who captured two victories in Tucson this year.
The Wes Hurst Memorial which takes place on the weekend following Thanksgiving enters it 5th year and is anticipated to be the largest Modified event of 2009. The best of the best will tackle USA Raceway's 3/8-mile clay oval for three days on November 27, 28 and 29, with nearly $100,000 in prize money to be distributed over the course of the blockbuster event. An unprecedented $15,000 top prize awaits the eventual winner as that name will be added to past champions that include Christy Georges, Richie Tosh, Tommy Weider and 2008 winner Terry Phillips.

Friday, November 27 at 7:00 p.m. – 5th Annual Wes Hurst Memorial
Saturday, November 28 at 4:00 p.m. – 5th Annual Wes Hurst Memorial
Sunday, November 29 at 4:00 p.m. – 5th Annual Wes Hurst Memorial championship features

Event Format:
Heat races with passing/finishing points to determine feature lineups.
Friday and Saturday "A" and "B" Feature finishes determine Sunday feature lineups. The top five finishers from Friday and Saturday will make up the first 5 rows of Sunday’s $15k to win championship feature.

Past Wes Hurst Winners:
Christy Georges became the first winner of the Wes Hurst Memorial in 2005 also marking the richest win by a female driver in the Modified ranks. Georges went on to claim the 2006 BRA National Championship and has captured one victory at USA Raceway in 2009.
Richie Tosh from Salado Arkansas added his name to the list of Wes Hurst winners as he won the event in 2006. Tommy Weider and Terry Phillips also captured the esteemed memorial victory in 2007 and 2008 respectively.
