RC Whitwell Holds Off The New Mexico Bandits
TUCSON, Ariz. (October 17, 2009) – RC Whitwell shoots back at the New Mexico bandits returning to victory lane by topping Saturday night’s 25-Lap Barnett Harley Davidson UMP West Modified main event at USA Raceway.
Whitwell beat Dane Jorgensen into the first corner and held off a very hard charging Johnny Scott and Paul Banghart to capture his ninth victory of 2009. Scott and Banghart completed the top three as they swapped positions several times and applied relentless pressure on Whitwell for the entire race.
Chad Ayers and New Mexico’s Jimmy Ray completed the top five. Robert Adams raced from 25th to sixth with Dylan Kelfer, Dane Jorgensen, Jason Noll and Adam Crippen rounding out the top ten.
Marty Hussak took the checkered flag for his fourth victory of 2009 as he topped the 15-lap Super Stock Feature. Hussak beat Terry Hill to the stripe and gained a slight advantage going into “Championship Night” on Halloween. Dwayne Hogan, Lonnie Foss and Rod Hiestand rounded out the top 5.
Manny Romero made it two in a row by taking honors in the 20-lap Factory Stock feature. Romero took the checker flag just ahead of Kalvin Catlin and point leader Dusty Gauthier.
Paul Norris and Jason Pugliese both took honors in Hornet action setting up a tight point’s battle that will crown a champion this weekend, October 24th, and conclude the Hornet season.
Mike Martin took top honors in the AMA Modlite feature while James Chavez Jr. captured the Arizona Late Model feature.

USA Raceway will host ASCS Southwest Sprint Cars this Saturday night October 24th. The stars of the American Sprint Car Series will join forces with X-Mods, Factory Stocks, Hornets and a The Mini Sprint Open. General admission tickets will go on sale at 5pm for only $12, racing will begin promptly at 7pm.
