Casa Grande, Az. (Dec. 5, 2012)- From future Late Model Hall of Fame pilots to living legends that have conquered more on dirt that most have witnessed, the list of drivers continues to grow with truly some of the best of the business for this year’s Wild West Shootout at Central Arizona Raceway. The marquee event that boasts five action packed days of racing in an eight day calendar enters its 7th year of existence and anticipation has never been higher amongst drivers and especially race fans. Not to be overlooked or taken lightly is an always action packed field of the best Modified racers from every part of the United States and Canada that are chomping at the bit for one more round of Wild West Shootout excitement. The 2012 Modified car count peaked at 57 and could very well be shattered this year with the tracks decision to incorporate 100% of the 2013 IMCA rule book during the shootout as well as the 2013 season. The start studded field of IMCA Modified pilots will go to battle each and every night of the five race mini-series right along with the 800 horsepower Super Late Models that will wage war on the first two action packed days of excitement. In the six short years of what has become an annual racing vacation for a number of families looking to get to warmer conditions, the local race fan and local racer continue to play a major part of the 8 day event. 2013 will follow suit with support from Arizona’s best Pure Stock and Super Stock racers along with Desert Dwarf Car Club joining the action packed card the first two days. The newly added ASCS Winged Sprint Cars will make their debut to the high banks of Casa Grande along with the X-Mods and Modlites during the last 2 days of competition. This will mark the first winter race for the high flying bandits since the Slick 50 series that ran in the early 90’s. All the action kicks off January 4th with an open practice from 6 to 9pm which is free for the fans that wish to get a sneak peak from the grandstands. The action will then see its first competitive green flag at 4pm the very next day as we kick down the door to a showdown in the desert that you don’t want to miss. So mark your calendars as Saturday, January the 5th is coming quick for the 7th Annual Wild West Shootout at Central Arizona Raceway! You can also save some serious cash on your tickets but time is running out! Save up to 30% when you purchase a 5 day event pass in advance! Ticket information including pricing can be found by clicking here for the complete ticket form or by calling the Central Arizona Raceway office at 520-574-8515.
Raceway Media, Casa Grande, Ariz. (November 28th, 2012) – After a successful Wes Hurst Hurst Memorial that launched the grand re-opening and resurrection of one of Arizona’s premier racing facilities, Central Arizona Speedway co-promoters Benji Lyons and Art Lacy are reshaping the highly anticipated Wild West Shootout. Under the direction of Benji Lyons, The Wild West Shootout, has grown into one of the most popular racing events on the West Coast as Late Model and Modified fans around the country migrated west to Arizona on the second week of January for the six race mini-series. Lyons, who spent the last six years shaping the event, is ready for a new direction, but a direction that will keep the Wild West Shootout as a marquee winter event. “After talking with some of the most appreciative racers and race fans I’ve ever met, I just felt like the ball was in our court to keep doing the right thing. The right thing for the fans, the racers, and for Central Arizona Raceway” stated Lyons. In an effort to cooperate with a neighboring track formerly managed by Lyons, Central Arizona Speedway moved the Wild West Shootout opener up one week and scratched the normal finale date with hopes that the gesture would be reciprocated. “We tried everything we could to make it work for everyone, but we can only do so much” commented co-promoter Art Lacy. Central Arizona Raceway will seize the opportunity to make the Wild West Shootout bigger and better for 2013. The 7th Annual Wild West Shootout will feature the 800 horsepower, ground pounding Super Late Models on January 5th and 6th joined by a star studded field of IMCA Modifieds. Lyons went on to say, “we realize that change is always met with some opposition but we are hopeful that the fans and racers will realize that we are trying to separate ourselves from any of the negativity that has surrounded this event recently.” The IMCA Modifieds will carry on the event as they headline the Wednesday portion on January 9th and will join forces with the high speed ASCS Wing Sprint Cars for the Wild West Shootout finale on Saturday and Sunday January 12th and 13th. A complete payout schedule for all the divisions can be found by clicking here. This will mark the first winter racing event for Wing Sprint Cars since the Slick 50 events held in the early 90’s and will also be the debut for ASCS Sprint Cars a-top the 3/8 mile high banked clay oval. Pure Stocks, and Dwarfs Cars will join the Late Models and Modifieds on the opening weekend while Modlites and X-Mods will join the Wing Sprint Cars and IMCA Modifieds on the finale weekend.

Lyons went on to say, “we realize that change is always met with some opposition but we are hopeful that the fans and racers will realize that we are trying to separate ourselves from any of the negativity that has surrounded this event recently.”

The IMCA Modifieds will carry on the event as they headline the Wednesday portion on January 9th and will join forces with the high speed ASCS Wing Sprint Cars for the Wild West Shootout finale on Saturday and Sunday January 12th and 13th.

Eleven Mile Corner, commonly know as Central Arizona Raceway, would end its racing heritage and face the same dreadful fate as many other dirt tracks in America. Home to many racers in the Southwest, C.A.R would close its doors with little hope of ever reopening. That is until now! The Wild West Shootout has quickly become a stomping ground for some of the best Super Late Model stars around the globe and the seven year tradition will continue as the Wild West Shootout kicks off on Friday January 4th and concludes with the $10,000 to win Bill Cheesebourg Memorial on January 13th.
Tucson, Az. (Jan. 22, 2012)– Morgan Bagley began his 2012 campaign in fine fashion by claiming the $10,000 win in the Bill Cheesebourg Memorial behind the wheel of his #14m P&W Sales/Rocket By R.E. Consulting/Clements Super Late Model at USA Raceway (Tucson, Arizona). Sunday afternoon was a crowning achievement in the young, Super Late Model career of Morgan Bagley as he raced his way to the $10,000 win in the Bill Cheesebourg Memorial at USA Raceway (Tucson, Arizona). The big paying event served as the final round of the 6th Annual Wild West Shootout, and after winning his heat race, Bagley locked into the redraw for the feature, where he received the outside, front row starting spot for the feature, alongside pole-sitter, Billy Moyer Jr. As the race went green Bagley shot to the lead before Moyer Jr. took over the lead a couple of laps later. Morgan would storm back to the lead on the tenth lap and would hold the spot until lap 19 when Billy Moyer raced past for the top spot. Bagley would maintain the second spot until mechanical issues ended Moyer’s run on lap 30, allowing Morgan to inherit the lead. He would never give up the lead again as he led the final ten laps to claim the richest payday of his career. Morgan was followed across the finish line by Tim McCreadie, John Anderson, Billy Moyer Jr., and Jimmy Mars. “Part of me hates to get a win that way with the leader breaking, but I’ll definitely take it,” laughed Bagley after the event. “Randall (Edwards) and everyone with this team has done a great job with this car getting it ready for the season. We’ve had a good car out here all week, but we just haven’t had the best of luck and our results haven’t shown what we are capable of until tonight.

I can’t thank my team and team owner, Wayman McMillan enough for their support and hard work.”

by Ryan Neuharth Tucson, Az. (Jan. 20, 2012)- On a racetrack that Billy Moyer described as “The best he’s had it all week,” the Hall of Famer from Batesville, AR outdueled fellow front row starter and Sunday winner Tim McCreadie for the win in round four of the Wild West Shootout presented by Total Seal Piston Rings at USA Raceway. The win was the second of the week for Moyer, his ninth all-time in the series, and 754th of his career. While Moyer was credited with leading all 30-laps, the race was anything but a runaway as McCreadie kept steady pressure on the leader during the mid-stages of the caution free event. Between laps ten and twenty, McCreadie would show the nose to Moyer several times in heavy lapped traffic. The most serious challenge came on lap seventeen when the leaders split a lap car off of turn two, and running door-to-door into turn three. Moyer would find the moisture rich cushion to his liking off of turn four to repeal the New York driver’s most serious challenge. “This place is really fun to race on when it gets like this,” McCreadie said from the front-straight after the race. “He’s (Moyer) been in his car for four years, and we’ve been in ours for four days. We’re just a tick off but were gaining on it every night and building something special with these Warrior cars.” Behind the two leaders a great battle for the next six positions was taking place between Brad Looney, Jimmy Mars, Will Vaught, Randy Korte, Jesse Stovall, and Shannon Babb. Looney and Mars would run third and fourth for the first two-thirds of the event before the seventh starting Vaught, who was shuffled back to ninth early, also found the topside to his liking. Blasting around both Stovall and Korte on lap six, he stalked Looney and Mars before overtaking that duo between laps twenty and twenty-five. “We got shuttled back early there but we had a fast car,” Vaught said post-race. “This is new car and we were lucky to not blow-up the other night when we knocked the fan belt off in the B-Main.” Maybe the fastest driver on track, who also may have passed the most cars on the evening, was Shannon Babb. After starting eight and finishing fourth in his heat race, Babb cruised to a B-Main win earning the fifteenth starting spot in the A-Main. He would crack the top ten less than ten-laps into the 30-lapper, sitting eighth. Babb methodically picked his way forward, passing Stovall for seventh on lap fifteen, Korte for sixth on lap eighteen, and clipping Mars in a photo-finish for the fifth spot in the final rundown. With the Moyer/McCreadie battle taking place in front of him, and the charging Vaught coming from behind, Brad Looney was the steadiest driver in the top five. Tucson, Az.
Moyer’s ninth Wild West Shootout win ties him with Terry Phillips for the all-time series lead. Having stated repeatedly throughout the week that his car is not quite perfect, but he’s looking forward to Sunday’s Bill Cheesborg Memorial finale, and now standing alone a-top the series all-time win list.
