Team Tucson Set To Defend Home Turf From New Mexico Invasion!

There is no doubt around town that this Saturday night is far from just another round of fun and games with the good ol’ boys at USA Raceway. With just 5 races remaining in the books, tempers are on tilt and egos are at stake this weekend at the 3/8^th clay oval located in the desert of Tucson, Az.

The stage is set for the new kid on the block to show if it can truly hold its own against some of the biggest and baddest of em all. Some say it’s going to kill our sport, some say it will save the Modified division. No matter which side of the fence you may be on, you know it has taken home the gold the last two USRA events at USA and is known as the new Chevrolet CT525 Crate Engine which currently sits in the 3d machine of Chad Ayers.

After posting just two wins in the previous two years, the current USRA point leader has quickly become the target of Tucson by clicking off two consecutive wins and seems to be getting quicker every time he hits the track. With weight breaks and other advantages in place, the new technology filled power plant that runs about half the price tag of most engines today hasn’t exactly been met with open arms within the motorsport community.

This week, officials at USA Raceway and Southern New Mexico Speedway agreed to one change in hopes of continuing the equal and level playing field as in years past within the local and regional Modified division. Officials determined that lowering the weight requirements in the other (non CT525) competitor’s cars with a 50lb deduction from the current rules in place seemed to be the logical solution at this time.

This Saturday night will bring the big names and the big bucks of New Mexico’s finest led by the 2 car of Stormy Scott which has posted wins in two of his last three appearances at USA Raceway. The father and son team of Fito and Jacob Gallardo who also visited victory lane for the first time in 2011, will be ready for battle along with Arizona’s Brian Clark, point runner up Cody Alverez, the revamped Dana Fite and many more crowd favorites all ready for a showdown in the desert you don’t want to miss.

Joining the action packed night is the Unifirst Super Stocks, Factory Stocks, Dwarf Cars and Hornets. The Super Stocks will make their return to Tucson after nearly a month long vacation from competition. Factory Stock racing resumes just two weeks after dirt transplant Dustin Jones snuck by current point leader Terry Churchwell for his first USA win of his career.

General admission tickets will go on sale at 4pm for only $12 for Adults, $10 for Seniors, Students and Military, Children 1 and under are FREE and racing will begin promptly at 6:45pm.
