Herrera Takes Another ASCS Southwest Win at USA!
Lonnie Wheatley, TUCSON, Ariz. (May 7, 2011) – Memphis flooding meant bad news for Sunoco Fuel ASCS Southwest competitors, as Albuquerque’s Johnny Herrera dropped in to take another series win Saturday night at USA Raceway.
With the weekend’s Lucas Oil ASCS National Rock ‘N Roll 50 event at West Memphis’ Riverside International Speedway, Albuquerque’s Herrera shifted his sights on Tucson and came away with his third ASCS triumph of 2011.
Herrera gridded the field sixth and took command after Charles Davis, Jr., and then John Carney II led early, racing on to the checkered flag aboard the Wesmar-powered Champion Oil No. 45x Maxim.
Herrera crossed the stripe ahead of Calvin Landis, with Carney, current points leader Rick Ziehl and Kyle McCutcheon rounding out the top five. Davis was sixth, with Wes Wofford, pole starter Lance Norick, Joshua Williams and Jody Williams completing the top ten.
Wofford and Ziehl topped heat race action.

The 3rd Annual Armed Forces Appreciation Day Presented by The Tucson Airport Courtyard by Marriott will take off this Saturday night as we salute our Troops with Sunoco Fuels ASCS Non Wing Sprint Cars, The Western States Stock Car Series, X-Mods and ASCS2. A full night of action begins when general admission tickets go on sale at 4pm for only $15 for Adults, $12 for Seniors, Students and Military. Racing action will begin promptly at 6:45pm.
