Lonnie Wheatley, TUCSON, Ariz. (April 2, 2011) – Calvin Landis nabbed his first career American Sprint Car Series feature win by topping Saturday night’s 25-lap Sunoco Fuel ASCS Southwest Region main event atop the 3/8-mile USA Raceway clay oval.

The Knoxville, IA, resident by way of native Arizona advanced from the fifth starting position to take his first series win aboard Gary Williams’ Borello-powered Diamond Mechanical/Bandit Racing No. 79 Maxim.

Landis beat three-time and defending ASCS Southwest champion Rick Ziehl to the stripe, with current points leader Joshua Hodges, John Carney II and Joshua Williams rounding out the top five.

John Van Horn and Williams won Saturday night’s heat races.

Terry Churchwell made it two in a row by winning the 20-Lap USA Factory Stock main event.  Churchwell was able to take the point after a fierce four car battle early in the race and held off a hard charging Bucky Andrews for his second win of the year.  Andrews finished runner up for the second time in a row and relinquished the championship points lead to Churchwell.

Rick Butler won his first X-Mod feature after moving from third to first on the final lap.  Butler’s opportunity knocked when AJ Huebner drove deep into turn one and pulled a giant slide job on race leader Jason George who got tangled with Huebner taking both drivers out of the race and giving Butler the win.

Jesse Patterson and Ricky McGuire rounded out the top three while George was able to take the lead in the 2011 X-Mod championship battle.

AJ Martin battled back after some early race troubles and captured the 20-Lap Southwest Modlite feature ahead of Brad Weiss and Vince Perez.
